How to Make University Life Interesting and Beneficial
While it is common to hear people say that high school will be the best years of your life, you can make your student years in university, in my opinion, even better. Here, I share some tips for making the most of your university experience.
You can create your own society
If no societies quench your thirst for fun then you can start your own. Running your own society is a rewarding thing to do – make new friends and share your interests with a wider audience. You can start an interest group out of pretty much anything – check out these unusual uni societies for inspiration.
Establishing your own society generally only takes completing a few forms with details of your idea and then getting supporting signatures from people interested in joining – people can be approached on campus, the SU bar etc.
Don’t sleep through lectures
Avoid getting into bad habits with your course – they’re difficult to get out of. Start as you intend to continue and it will put you in good stead as you progress through the year.
You’ll feel the repercussions of missing any scheduled lectures, seminars or practical sessions early on. These are your opportunities to pick up advice (on how to approach your assignments or referencing), speak directly to subject experts and where you’ll be introduced to key concepts and theories that will be a mainstay in your units.
Enjoy it – second and third years will be tough!
Your first year at university is often as much about settling in and getting into the swing of surviving independently as it is about your degree studies. The academic side of your university experience will quickly ramp up in your second and third years.
Use your first year (your marks often won’t count towards your overall degree mark) to make mistakes and get to grips with the style of learning at university – and remember to enjoy it! This is the year to get to know your new surroundings and friends.
Do something you’d never dream of doing.
We all tend to put ourselves into little boxes. We think we would like this, we think we should act like that – but it really doesn’t do us any good. Take a minute to think of something you’d never do and then put your mind to doing it. Would you never go skinny dipping? Do it. Never hold a spider? Do it. Even you can surprise yourself. It doesn’t have to be something scary – it could even be going to a country music concert if that’s something you’d never do. It’s about getting out of your comfort zone and becoming a more dynamic person. And this way you can know if you ‘’actually’’ like it or not.
Keeping Your Life Busy and Exciting
Shake up your routine. It doesn’t matter if other people think you’re interesting, it only matters if you think you’re interesting. And all that takes is a few baby steps and a different routine. So wake up 15 minutes earlier in the morning, make yourself a breakfast you never eat, and go sit out on the porch with a newspaper. Spend a day going to the movies. Make hanky panky during your lunch hour. It doesn’t have to be big, it just has to be different.Try to think of one thing each day you can do differently. Whether it’s taking a different route home, actually cooking dinner for once, or calling up a friend you haven’t spoken to in years, give it a try. It’s about surprising yourself, not other people.
Never Forget to Protect Yourself
There is no doubt that college life is colorful, especially for freshers who have lots of plans for their university life. However, there is a threaten from mosquitoes which will spread many diseases in crowd people especially university. Mosquitoes cause more human suffering than any other organism — over one million people worldwide die from mosquito-borne diseases every year. Not only can mosquitoes carry diseases that afflict humans, they also transmit several diseases and parasites that dogs and horses are very susceptible to.
Thus, it is better for students to have QM mosquito traps to fight mosquitoes and protect them stay safely. QM mosquito traps release CO2 to specifically attract female mosquitoes. One of these new traps developed by QM is called the MBOX electric mosquito killer, by using photo catalysis of titanium dioxide (also known as the Honda-Fujishima Effect). When a titanium dioxide surface is irradiated by light, the photo catalytic effect and hydrophilic are activated together. QM mosquito trap is the best mosquito catcher in the market currently.
